Alpine, CA is a little town east of San Diego in the mountains. It’s a handy meet-up point (huge resort-casino-hotels, plus local lodging) just a few miles from the border. From there one can cross at Tecate or Otay Mesa pretty easily. (Certainly easier than the snarl-up that is San Ysidro anyway)  La Rumarosa is just on the other side, east of Tecate.

The roads out in E. SD County don’t suck either, for that matter...

Ah ok. I was thinking it was some mountain rally called “Alpine California. ” But being a place makes sense.
